During a technical visit to the Eti Bakır Samsun Plant organized by our department's faculty member, Prof. Dr. Özgür DEMİRCAN, on May 28, 2025, the company had the opportunity to observe the company's smelting and electrolyte treatment processes. The visit provided an opportunity to observe the critical stages of pure cathode copper production from copper ore.

First, the smelting facility was visited, where the process of melting enriched copper ore at high temperatures into matte (raw copper) was examined. Information was provided on the furnace technologies used in this process, flue gas treatment systems, and environmental protection measures.

Then, the electrolyte treatment facility was visited, where the purification of raw copper into anode form was observed. This stage, carried out using electrolysis, explained the process of obtaining 99.99% pure copper deposited in the cathodes, and how precious metals such as gold and silver are separated as byproducts.

This technical trip provided the opportunity to acquire practical knowledge on smelting and electrolytic refining, which are the basic processes of the heavy metal industry; it reinforced the theoretical knowledge of our students and made significant contributions to their professional development.
