A technical visit to the ASÇELİK Casting Industry facility, organized by Prof. Dr. Özgür DEMİRCAN, was organized for Metallurgical and Materials Engineering students on November 5, 2025. The purpose of the visit was to examine casting technologies on-site and observe the cast iron production process.
The facility visit began with occupational health and safety training. Following this, the students toured the areas where gray and nodular cast iron are produced and melted in an induction furnace, where scrap iron, pig iron, and alloying elements are mixed in appropriate proportions to produce liquid metal.
The prepared liquid metal was poured into resin sand molds. After cooling, the metal was subjected to sand cleaning and deburring. Following production, the parts were subjected to visual inspection, dimensional control, and hardness tests. It was also observed that the chemical composition of the metal was checked using an optical emission spectrometer (OES).
This visit enabled them to observe all stages of the casting process firsthand, reinforcing the students' theoretical knowledge through technical observations.
