Students who have successfully completed the compulsory preparatory class and enrolled in the first year may take the Foreign Language Exemption Exams (for "5/ı" courses)—scheduled for September 23, 2026, as indicated in the academic calendar—for the YDİ113 English I and YDİ114 English II courses taught in our department. However, students enrolling in the first year after successfully completing the preparatory class or the foreign language proficiency exam may be exempted from the relevant courses without taking the exemption exam. To qualify for exemption without taking the exam, students must submit their petitions to Research Assistant Eyüp AKBULUT by Tuesday, September 29, 2026. Students whose grades from the preparatory class or foreign language proficiency exam do not appear on their transcripts must obtain a document showing their grades from the Directorate of the School of Foreign Languages and submit it along with their petition.
For students who submit a petition, the grades they achieved in the preparatory class or foreign language proficiency exam will be accepted as the grades for the relevant courses during the exemption process.
Students who choose to take the exemption exam—whether to improve their grades or for other reasons—but fail to pass the exam will be required to take the relevant courses during the semester. The grades obtained in the exemption exam will be accepted as the grades for the YDI113 English I and YDI114 English II courses.
Students who do not submit a petition and do not take the exemption exam are required to take the relevant courses during the semester.
To avoid issues during the course registration period, you will need to register for the YDI113 English I and YDI114 English II courses; your exemptions will be reflected in the system subsequently.
